MEMORANDUM
 
 
1.Name:                       The name of the institute shall be the “POLICY
                           RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE AFRICAN  
                           STUDIES ASSOCIATION OF  INDIA (PRIASA)”,
                           herein after referred to as the “Institute” or
                           “PRIASA”.
 
2.Office:                      The office of the Institute shall be situated at:
                                              19 -A , Ground  Floor,
                               DDA, Phase II, Katwaria Sarai, New Delhi -110016

3.Area of Work:          All India.
 
4.Aims and Objectives:  The Aims and Objectives of the Institute are as follows:
(a)   PRIASA is being established as a no-profit institute by the African Studies Association of India (ASA India), registered under the Society Registration Act, 1860, with registration number S/47140/2003 dated 3 October 2003, to carry out its mandate on research and publication (and such other activities as might be deemed appropriate), as envisaged by the establishment of an Institute of African Studies in the Memorandum of Association of ASA India.
(b)  The Institute will carry out this research and publication mandate under the supervision and guidance of the Executive Council of the African Studies Association of India (ASA India).
(c)   Research and publications will be the mainstay of PRIASA’s activities. It will promote and conduct research for building a knowledge base on Africa, as well as on Indian affairs as it relates to Africa, in order to promote understanding between India and Africa. It will conduct studies in the political, socio-economic, international relations, cultural and related fields, with a view to promoting India-Africa relations.
(d)  The Institute will serve as a forum to debate important aspects of African and Indian affairs, as well as India-Africa co-operation. PRIASA will also conduct national and international conferences, seminars, study-group courses, lectures, round tables, workshops, and other similar activities in pursuance of its mandate: 
(i)   to develop policy options for the improvement of policy-making and to provide research and advisory services to governments, public bodies, businesses, and other institutions, including international agencies, on matters having a bearing on the performance and optimum use of resources for the social, economic and cultural  development of both India and Africa;
(ii)   to engage the public sphere in policy debates, and to create a community of researchers on the subject area of India and Africa;
(iii) to disseminate information on policy issues through the publication of reports, pamphlets, and other literature, including research papers, journals, and books;
(iv) to establish and maintain library and documentation services in order to facilitate the development of African studies in India; and
(v)    to provide research and advisory services to the private sector (business corporations, investment bankers, chambers of commerce and industry, and financial institutions) on investment and trade-related matters in the pursuit of stronger India-Africa ties, geared towards the socio-economic development of African continent.
