African Studies Association of India (ASA)
African Studies Association of India (ASA) is a registered non-governmental academic organisation established in October, 2003. Its objective is to foster and promote the study, knowledge and understanding of African affairs in India and Indian affairs in Africa through excellence in research and academic activities. The association is an umbrella organisation for scholars and individuals in India working to promote awareness, knowledge and information on Africa. The association links up various African studies programmes in India and world over. The association intends to strengthen friendship and cooperation between India and African countries in economic and developmental areas by research, policy planning and exchange of scholars. ASA also organizes interactions with African civil society including media and cultural organizations. It has an active unit for African film shows and performing art. African Studies Association of India (ASA) is registered as a nonprofit charitable organisation under section 10A of Indian Income Tax Act. Donations and contributions to ASA India qualify for tax exemption under 80(G) of Indian Income Tax Act. Its permanent secretariat is located in African Studies Division of School of International Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.
